Winter Olympics interview to Craig Saslow

In this article (my partner) Carolina Elizalde and (me) Ma. Daniela del Hierro, students of Colegio Menor, interview Craig Saslow. Craig is a teacher at Colegio Menor, who knows a lot about Winter Olympics, since in his home state, Colorado, winter sports are very popular. We hope the interview is of your interest and hope you enjoy it:

1. Do you watch the Olympic Games?
Normally I do watch them and I like them.

2. If you can decide where would you host the Winter Olympics?
I think it would be cool if they were in Colorado, my home state. I think it will be exciting for the community and also it will generate a lot of money.

3. What do you know about the sports played in the winter Olympics?
I grew up in a place where winter sports are popular so I know a lot about winter sports because of that, specially skiing.

4. Do you think that the organizers of the winter Olympics should imply new security rules after the death of the boy in the try outs for Vancouver 2010?
That’s a good question, I think they should try but its impossible to remove the danger from some sports.

5. Do you think that for security reasons they should eliminate some sports?
I don’t think they shouldn’t remove any sports because the athletes know what they are signing up for.

6. If you had the opportunity to participate in a winter Olympics sport which one and why?
Probably hokey because I think is fun.

7. Winter Olympics have being going on for 60 years what example do you think all the generations have learned from the athletes in the winter Olympics?
I think a wonderful example of what individuals can achieve when they are devoted to their goals.

1. What do you prefer, summer or winter olympics? why?
Overall summer, more exciting events, more clear displays of atheticism and observable skills.

2. What do you most enjoy in the summer olympics?
basketball, track, swimming.

3. Since when do you follow the olympics?
Ive probably been watching since about the age of 12 or so, around 1996, the Atlanta games.

4. Have you ever attended to a summer olympic, sice the US has hosted many times this event?
Ive never attended the olympics im person, but I am more interested when theyre held in the US such as the games in 2002 in Salt Luke City.

5. Who do you think has been the best athlete in the Summer Olympics history?
Tough to say. Phelps is up there, Usain Bolt could be if he does well in 2012 Michael Johnson was also incredible. Im sure there are more from the years before I said attention.

6. What do you think about Michael Phelps, the american, who won like 8 gold medals. But then smoke weed. What do you think about it?
Hes an amazing athlete. He made a bad choice in that moment, but I think much of the media was too hard on him for a relative, minor mistake.

The Summer Olympics are the oldest sports. They started in Greece in 1896 when only men did sports; there were a total of 241 men. Since then different sports had been added to the summer Olympics to make them better. Summer Olympics have made tourism increase for the country hosting them. Lots of people from other countries come to see the Olympics take place. The last summer Olympics took place in Beijing, China. Lots of people came to see their countries represent them with joy. The next Olympic will be in 2012 in London England. This country will be the first one to host the Olympics three times. Then it will be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil making it the first South American country to host an Olympic.

The Summer Olympic Games or Games of the Olympiad are an international multi-sport event occurring every four years since 1896. Medals are awarded in each event, with gold medal for first place, silver medal for second place, and bronze medal for third place. The games contain 300 events with over 10,000 competitors from 205 different nations. The United States of America is the country with more times hosting the Olympics.

Some of the most common sports that take place in the summer Olympics are athletics, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, and swimming. Those sports have always been in the Olympics. Other sports like basketball, baseball. Croquet, cricket, diving, softball, table tennis, rackets, polo, golf, football, volleyball, etc. have are played during the Olympics. Those have been added through time to make the Olympics bigger and more interesting for turism.

Javier, my partner, and me honestly think that Summer Olympics are awesome and compared to Winter Olympics, they are a hundred times better. We think this because in Winter Olympics, its just snow, ice, and tricks. Meanwhile in the Summer Olympics, with many different sports, people follow it daily, the feeling of each athlete before performing is something outstanding. They know they defend their nation, the place where they live and were raised. They know that they have pressure of the crowd and the support of all his country. “Winning, and beating records, is a feeling that you can’t express in words”, according to the fastest person on the Galaxy, the Jamaican, Usian Bolt. And my partner and I do not think he is lying. That is why, we think Summer Olympics are way better than Winter Olympics.

The Winter Olympics are a legend in all the Olympics. In these games there are many sports, like ice skating, hockey, and many other things. In my personal opinion the Winter Olympics are one of the rarest and the most fun to go since there are many different and interesting sports played. Even though going is freezing is worth to see this expectacular event, which it’s only held every four years. The Winter Olympics have many advertisements that sponsor this magnificent event that you will never regret going. The Winter Olympics have created a great attraction for sponsors, and too for televsion companies to advertise the games. This games have become very popular and great for the International Olympics Committee. This Olypics had been held in three continents, but never in the southern hemisphere. This are some examples of cities that have hosted the Winter Olympics: the United States have hosted the Olympics four times, France has hosted three times, Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Norway and Switzerland have hosted the games two times. And in the coming 2014 Sachi will host the Winter Olympics and it will be the first Russian city to host the games. There have been held for 60 years and every time we see these this athletes playing these sports,every time we see them on the rink we see how much commitment and passion this atheletes have with their sports. So, in my opinion the Winter Olympics are the best of all the sports played.

History of the winter olympics

The fisrt Winter Olimpic games where held in 1942 in Chamonix, France. Sincxe then each 4 years we have The winter olympic games. The first gold medal at the first Winter Olimpic games went to speed skater Charles jewtraw of United Stestes. he earned medals in all five speed skating events. The Canadian ioce hokey team won all five of their matches, outsocring the oponents 110 to 3. IN that first Olympic Games 16 natioons participated bringing 258 athletes (11 woman and 247 men ) to compete in all the events After 50 years of loymjpic games we are on the 210 Winter olympic games in Vancuver 2010. During Vancuver 2010 Olympic Winter Games we now count aproximlly 2500 athletes. this 2500 athletes will be competing in 15 sporrts and an overall of 86 separte medal events.

Winter Olympics Overall

The first Winter Olympics was held in Chamonix in France in 1924. The Winter Olympics are every four years. In this event there are the traditional events like skating and ice hockey. These games have undergone significant changes since its inception. "The raising of television as a global medium for communication has enhanced the profile of the Games."This means the Winter games are mostly seen by television rising the rating of television as source of communication system. Too it has created an income because of the broadcast rights and advertising, which has become very popular and great for the Internacional Olympics Committee (IOC). The Winter Olympics have created a great attraction for sponsors to influence the game, and too for television companies to advertise the games.

The Games too have had internal scandals, one of the makor scandals was the use of performance enhancing drugs by Winter Olympians, there has been one political boycott of the Winter Olympics. Other internal conflict is the one of the Nations using the Winter Games for their own political ends, and to showcase the claimed superiority of their political systems.

The Winter Olympics have been hosted in three continents but never in the Winter Olympics history in the southern hemisphere. The united States have hosted the Olympics four times, France has hosted three times, Australia, Canada, Italy, Japan, Norway, and Switzerland have hosted two times, and in 2014 Sachi will host the Winter Olympics and it will be the first Russian city to host this Games.
